edm Welcomes Samantha Daniels, Structural Designer to the Team

June 18th, 2020

June 18, 2020 – edm would like to welcome Samantha Daniels as our newest Structural Designer to the team!

Samantha was born and raised in Florida, Massachusetts, a very rural town in Northern Berkshire County. In fact, she loved growing up there so much that she and her partner Alex currently live on the near very top of Florida Mountain in a little cabin in the woods (literally a little cabin, only about 800 square feet).

Growing up, I fell in love with buildings and design due to my father exposing me to construction. He showed me how to draw simple floor plans at a young age, and I wanted to be an architect. He taught me about design and construction methods from the age of about 5 years old.”  - Samantha Daniels

She attended high school at Charles H. McCann Technical School with a focus on Computer Assisted Design (CAD)Due to being in CAD at McCann, she has nearly 8 years of experience with Autodesk programs such as AutoCAD and Revit. While attending high school, she had a cooperative work experience as an intern for a Mechanical 3D BIM Coordination Firm. It was there that she was exposed to the engineering side of the AE Industry and became more interested in it.

Initially I told everyone I wanted to be an architect. It wasn’t until I began working with the engineering departments my mind was changed.- Samantha Daniels

She has interned at edm since graduating from high school in June of 2016. She has worked in the office every summer and every break from school that she had in order to help pay for her degree. Over the four- year period, she spent most of her time working with the MEP Departments, and occasionally with the Structural Department. Over those years, she went back and forth with which discipline she wanted to pursue. It wasn’t until she worked with one of edm’s Senior Structural Engineers on the Albany Red Cross Structural Design and Analysis Project last summer, that her mind was made up and she was sure that she wanted to pursue a career in Structural Engineering.

“I have gained knowledge in numerous aspects of buildings and design because of my architectural engineering degree.” “The alumni and students of the AET program at VTC like to refer to it as the ‘jack of all trades’ program.”  - Samantha Daniels

Samantha is a 2020 graduate of Vermont Technical College in Randolph Center, VT (VTC) where she earned her Associate of Applied Science in Architectural and Building Engineering Technology (Summa Cum Laudeand a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering Technology (Magna Cum Laude). She is the first in her family to attain a college degree. At VTC, she had the opportunity to learn about architecture and architectural design, structural design and systems, mechanical design and systems, plumbing design and systems, Construction Management/AE Management/Project Management, electrical design and systems, and construction methods.

“Watching Sam develop over the years at edm into a mature, energetic, and talented young professional has been both inspiring and rewarding both for herself individually, and edm as a company.”  -Jeromy Richardson, CEO

In joining our team as a Structural Designer, Samantha will assist our Structural Department in all phases of the design process. We are thrilled that she has chosen edm as your first position as an AE Professional!
