Hadley Senior Center

Overview
edm designed a new senior center located in the historic district of the Town of Hadley. The center is single-story building with approximately 10,350 SF of usable space.
Located along the Connecticut River, Hadley is known for their agricultural roots, which inspired the exterior design of the building. Large, gable forms with a covered front porch give the building a “farm-like” feel, while also taking cues from local municipal architecture. The functional spaces will likely include reception area, commercial grade kitchen, dining area, administration offices, conference room, gathering area, exercise rooms, nurse’s office, classrooms and outdoor area with seating.
The building was located on a single parcel of Town owned land that shared outdoor space with a new town library building that was being designed and constructed in parallel with the senior center. The design teams from each project worked together to create a single parcel site design that fit within the Town’s masterplan guidelines, creating a campus-like set-up to the site.
