Senior Electrical Designer
Location: Farmington, CT, Pittsfield, MA, or Troy, NY
*This is a hybrid position, which requires 3-4 days in office, 1-2 days remote. Salary Range: $75K - $90K, commensurate with experience.*
Job Summary:
edm architecture & engineering, pc. (“edm”), a growing design firm, is seeking a talented Senior Electrical Designer to join their team. Reporting directly to the Manager of Electrical Engineering, the Senior Electrical Designer will be responsible for tackling advanced engineering tasks and delivering high-quality, timely work.
Electrical Engineering Manager Qualifications:
- 5 to 7 years’ experience in electrical distribution design for commercial, educational, or light industrial projects.
- Understanding of advanced engineering principles, material properties, and other applicable engineering concepts.
- Ability to exhibit a balance of self-confidence and humility; cultivate and gain trust through active listening and being a team player.
- Proficiency with Revit MEP, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate technical concepts verbally and in writing.
- Engineer in training (EIT), pursuing Licensure a plus.

Senior Electrical Designer Job Responsibilities:
- Under the supervision of a licensed professional, prepare working drawings and specifications, and perform detailed calculations for projects of increasing difficulty.
- Assume a lead role in coordinating with multidiscipline teams.
- Collaborate with team to understand client needs and analyze constraints in project schedule, scope, and budget; provide technical expertise and advice to clients on best solutions and recommendations in design.
- Understand the scope of services as outlined in project contract; identify when client requests are out of scope.
- Monitor project deadlines and prepare status updates on assigned tasks.
- As a team, leverage combined knowledge of the planning, design delivery, and construction completion to make informed recommendations to the client.
- Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, and provide a high quality of customer service.
- Ask thoughtful, relevant, and open-ended questions to better understand clients’ needs; actively listen to develop rapport.
- Visit project sites and attend meetings with clients, architects, and engineers.
- Build and leverage local professional networks to establish valuable connections and maintain industry knowledge that clients expect.
- Maintain a people first approach and entrepreneurial initiative; develop an understanding of risk management and business impact when implementing process improvement.
- Continuous education to remain competitive with the latest technologies and practices.
- Assist with new staff training and develop staff through interactions and informal mentorship.
- Review, approve or prepare technical reports for establishing the design criteria of a project.
- Maintain knowledge of all applicable codes, safety requirements, and other standards.
