Designer II

Location: Pittsfield, MA, or Troy, NY
*This role will include some hybrid flexibility following an initial training period. Salary range is $70k to $80k, *

Job Summary:
edm architecture & engineering, pc. (“edm”), a growing design firm, is seeking a talented Designer II to join their team. Reporting directly to the Manager of Design, the Designer II will play a key role in shaping the company's portfolio of commercial and residential projects, including mixed-use and high-end residential properties. These projects will require the application of advanced design techniques to ensure compliance with both company standards and industry-wide regulations and codes. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Designer looking to take their career to the next level.

Designer II Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, preferably from an accredited program.
  • 5 years prior relevant experience; residential and commercial experience and familiarity with building codes preferred.
  • Preferential consideration for candidates pursuing licensure.
  • Strong project performance skills and ability to stay on time and within budget.
  • Strong client service skills; ability to retain and build client relationships.
  • Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite.Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate technical concepts verbally and in writing.
  • Capable of working in both an integrated team and individual design environments.
  • Possess a desire for continuous learning.
  • Travel required to Pittsfield, MA office 2 to 4 times per month following training period.

Designer II Job Responsibilities:

  • Actively develops solutions for all project phases under guidance of project leadership.
  • Provide creative and conceptual alignment in choice of building materials, systems, and development details.
  • Coordinate with multi-discipline teams and external consultants.
  • Understand the scope of services as outlined in project contract; identify issues as they arise.
  • Monitor project deadlines and perform work within allotted timeframes; prepare status updates and communicate to leadership and internal clients.
  • Participate in jobsite visits, client meetings, and presentations.
  • Extensive, independent contact with clients, vendors' representatives, and project field personnel.
  • Connect locally with relevant networks to build a network of professional connections; identify potential new clients and share with leadership.
  • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, and provide a high quality of customer service.
  • Assist with new staff training in addition to the development of staff through interactions and informal mentorship.
  • Understand moderate engineering design principles and concepts.
  • Maintain knowledge of all applicable codes, safety requirements, and other standards.
